Food Poisoning Claims

Food Poisoning is a real problem in today's world. Unfortunately there are thousands of people who suffer with food poisoning every year. The symptoms can be very painful and unpleasant and can include vomiting, fever, diarrhoea , tiredness and stomach cramps.

Food poisoning can affect people differently. Some cases can be serious enough to require hospitalisation whilst some cases may involve health problems for days or weeks. Sadly, older people and young children can suffer particularly badly when they get food poisoning. It can be normal for groups of people to suffer at the same time if they have eaten together.

If you or a member of your family or your friends have been unlucky enough to have suffered from food poisoning you have our sympathies as we know the experience is awful.

Luckily, The Legal Discount Company are here to help. We will help you with treatment that you may need and also help you make a claim for compensation against either the place where you purchased the food or directly from the manufacturer. You will be entitled to be compensated for the pain you have suffered as a result of the food poisoning and we would also help you recover any other costs such as the cost of any medical treatment, time off work and damaged clothing incurred as a result of food poisoning.

Why have I got Food Poisoning?
Food Poisoning symptoms can be caused by the undercooking of food and general poor food preparation. Symptoms are caused by a lack of hygiene in food preparation areas and poor hygiene where foods can be prepared in bulk quantities. Even the poor storage of food can cause problems. Ignoring the basic principles such as washing hands properly, cooking food properly and keeping surfaces and storage areas clean can cause misery to the people that suffer food poisoning.

What kind of bugs cause Food Poisoning?
Many cases of food poisoning are caused by dangerous micro organisms which include Salmonella, Botulism, Listeria and E Coli. Salmonella is most commonly found in meat and eggs.

It is very important that these types of food are cooked properly. Washing food properly and cooking it properly can help to avoid food poisoning.

What should I do if I have food poisoning?
The effects of food poisoning on you personally will determine what you should do.
If you are worried you should visit your GP or Hospital and they will help you manage your symptoms. They may even take a sample to determine what has happened to you.

If a particular food establishment is involved you should tell your GP or the Hospital and consider reporting that place to a local Environmental Health Officer (you can visit this site for help http://www.food.gov.uk/enforcement/laresource/yourarea/ ). They will look into what has occurred and can take the appropriate action against the company that has caused the food poisoning, and this can lead to the company being closed or at least being ordered to improve things.

The Law
The area of law that can be of some help is The Food Safety Act 1990. It tells us about how food should be handled and also about how food poisoning can be prevented.
